Remedies for Sore Throat

Sore throat may have many accomplices and alibis. Common with colds and flu, it may sting you in a variety of viral and bacterial infections. But if you live in a polluted metropolis, you may suffer a khich-khich just because of the sir you breath. Winter’s low humidity, singing at full throttle at pre- wedding festivities, and cheering boisterously in support of your team, can also set your throat on fire. Whatever be the irritant, there are some remedies which always work.

Suck on lozenges – Next time your throat goes bad, try medicated lozenges. They always provide some relief by exerting a mild anaesthetic action, which numbs the raw nerve endings and placates the throat. One bonus is increased production of saliva, which soothes and scratchy throat.

Take time off for a gargle – If the throat hurts while swallowing, the sore areas is well within the reach of a gargle to bathe and soothe it. Take half-a-liter of warm water and add one teaspoon of table salt. That is just enough to equal the normal salt content in human saliva. You will find it very soothing. Gargle every few hours. It will do you a world of good.

Try a novel approach – If the throat gets very painful, instead of turning to salt, dissolve two tablets of disprin in warm water. Gargle, and swallow whole. This way you will get a double benefit.

Turn on the humidifier – If the air in the room is too dry, as in winter months, get the environment nice and humid by using a bedside humidifier. Or, simply put a kettle on an electric stove and let it steam.

Take steam inhalations – In case your voice goes hoarse or you have a cough, it is a sign that the sore spot is not in the zipper part of the throat but is lower down. A gargle cannot reach there. So turn to steam inhalations. Repeat three to four times a day.

Increase the fluid intake – Taking in plenty of fluids will help hydrate your parched throat. It will give you a nice feeling. Take anything you like – hot cups of herbal tea, clear soups and sips of lukewarm water. But avoid things that can irritate the throat.

HOME REMEDIES TO CURE JETLAG

Jet lag, or desynchronosis, is a short-term condition that some people experience following air travel across several time zones in a short period of time. This causes the traveler's internal clock to be out of sync with the external environment. People experiencing jet lag have a difficult time maintaining their internal, routine sleep-wake pattern in their new location, because external stimuli, like sunshine and local timetables, dictate a different pattern. For this reason, one can feel lethargic one moment and excited the next. Jet lag creates a double bind for vacationers and business people who must cross several time zones to reach their destination, but who are also intent on maximizing sightseeing or productivity. As travelers attempt to adjust their internal clock to a new external environment, symptoms result with varying intensity.
