Home Remedies for Dandruff – How to Get Rid of Dandruff

Dandruff is a natural and harmless scalp condition in which the shedding of dead skin cells happens at an abnormally fast rate. Because of the oily skin often related with this condition, these cells bundle together and flake off as dandruff.

Dandruff is the outcome of the usual growing process of the skin cells of the scalp. Dandruff scales appear dry, white or grayish, appearing as small, ugly patches, mostly on top of the head. It commonly does not need any medical treatment. Dandruff can be upsetting for the person who has it, because the flakes can be seen in the hair and on the clothes.

Home Remedies for Dandruff:

1) Apply diluted (50% of water is suitable) apple cider vinegar to the scalp and let dry.

2) A good Home Remedy for Dandruff is to soak fenugreek seeds in water for eight hours and then grind into a fine paste. Apply this to scalp and wash after 3o minutes.

3) Apply warmed (not very warm, a little bit) coconut oil with the juice of two lemons, and left in hair for two hours before shampooing out.

4) The juice of snake gourd is useful in the prevention and dandruff treatment. The juice should be rubbed over the scalp gently.

5) Beets are also useful in dandruff treatment. Tops and roots of beets should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the finger tips every night. White beet is suitable for this purpose.

6) Soak fenugreek (methi) seeds in yogurt (curd) during the night and apply the curd on your scalp for half an hour before washing in the morning.

7) Beat two eggs and add two tablespoons of water. Wet the hair and apply this egg mixture over the hair. Massage scalp softly and stay the mixture for ten minutes to fifteen minutes. • The condition this is referring to is not actually dandruff... it is dry scalp. Dandruff is a yellowish crust that forms on the scalp that IS contagious and requires medical attention. This is a VERY common misconception.
However, a good home remedy for dry scalp which is mistakenly being called dandruff is scalp stimulation; massaging, brushing with a soft bristled brush are great ways to stimulate the scalp. Mint oil is also a great stimulant, but don't use it in it's pure form. Use a carrier oil such as olive or coconut and massage into scalp. Leave it in over night and shampoo in the morning. You can also find shampoo's and conditioner's with mint extracts in them. (this also helps with balding and thinning hair) If one has dry skin or lives in a dry climate they are more in likely to have dry scalp. It is also more common in dryer months.
